Invoice Template for Blender 3D Artists

The hardest part of invoicing as a Blender 3D artist is that render time is invisible to clients — they don't understand why a 10-second animation took 40 hours to produce. I constantly struggle to bill for render time separately from modelling time. The second challenge is scoping revisions after render, which requires re-rendering everything at significant cost.

What to include on your invoice

Blender 3D artists bill across modelling, rendering, and animation phases. 3D Modelling covers building the geometry of objects, scenes, or characters in Blender, including UV unwrapping and mesh cleanup, delivered as a .blend or .obj/.fbx file. Texturing and Shading refers to applying PBR materials, texture maps, and shader nodes to make the model look physically accurate. Scene Lighting and Rendering covers setting up HDRI or studio lighting, configuring Cycles or EEVEE render settings, and producing final-resolution output images or sequences. Animation refers to keyframe or physics-simulation work, rigging characters or objects and producing animated sequences. Video Compositing and Post-processing covers combining render passes in Blender's compositor or exporting to video with colour grading applied.

How to price your work

3D artists price by project complexity. A simple product render runs $200–$800. A character model with textures and rigging: $1,000–$5,000. Animated explainer sequences: $2,000–$15,000. Hourly rates ($50–$120/hr) work for revision work or short-form animation. Render time should be a separate line item — quote it based on your hardware capabilities and estimated time. Architectural visualisation projects often use per-image rates.

Getting paid faster

3D clients — especially product companies ordering renders for e-commerce or marketing — are business buyers who respond well to structured proposals. Send a formal invoice with a project summary, file format specifications, and licensing terms. Request 50% upfront before you start the render farm, because render costs are a real out-of-pocket expense. For animation work, milestone payment at storyboard approval, blocking approval, and final delivery works best.
